Sir Byron Laurent
Style and Fashion Consulting & Designs
By: LaSheik Calhoun
Fashion is all about style and confidence. It is not what
you wear but how you feel wearing it. Lawrence Spivey
always had a passion for fashion. He was introduced to
it by his mother. When he was young, he accompanied
her when she went to consignment and thrift shops.
Lawrence was amazed by what pieces you could
coordinate together for very little. Shopping in these
places was a pastime for his mother. She enjoyed
finding stylish pieces at great bargains.
Lawrence was born in Raleigh, North Carolina but spent
most of his childhood in Providence, Rhode Island. He
was exposed to fashion up North which consisted
of coastal, preppy and Ivy League styles. The men
generally dressed in cuffed pants, shirts with button
down collars, sweaters, vests and penny loafers. There
have been variations to these traditional Ivy League
styles. There was a distinct style around Newport , RI and
the Martha’s Vineyard area that Lawrence was exposed
to. Lawrence returned to North Carolina shortly before
graduating high school. He never lost sight of what he
gained up North regarding fashion for men.
In 2011, Lawrence decided to turn his passion for
fashion into a style brand. Sir Byron Laurent Style
and Fashion Consulting was born. Lawrence started
blogging about fashion and style for men. He would
discuss suits, shoes and thrift shopping based on his
experiences and what he knew about each subject.
He saw a fashion need in the South that he wanted to
help fill. Lawrence believed he had the style creativity
to help men look more stylish. Also they could find

clothing that actually fit their body type. Sir
Byron Laurent Style and Fashion Consulting
helps men shop for clothing. Men can also
receive tips and resources regarding altering
and tailoring pieces to accentuate their body
type. Women can also receive consulting to
help with their men style needs. There is more
to a piece of clothing than just taking it off
the rack and wearing it. Lawrence counsels
his clients to shop with purpose. His client
base consists of friends and people at his
church. They always complimented him on
his clothing and asking where he shopped for
his clothes. He would meet his clients at their
homes and other locations to help them with
their styling needs. Lawrence also traded and
gave away clothes that he no longer wore.
Sir Byron Laurent Style and Fashion Consulting has
caught the eye of many in the fashion and beauty arena.
Blogging about fashion for men caught the attention
of fashion stylists from the North and South. He was
on the panel at a Curls Gone Wild, which was a natural
hair conference , back in May, in Greensboro, N.C. He
was answering topics regarding how men view women
with natural hair. Lawrence also writes for various style
magazines, such as Session magazine which was the
first magazine he wrote for. Also he contributes to
Charlotte Style, Carolina Style and Emerge. Lawrence
has also been featured on My Carolina Today, where he
shares his style and fashion tips. There is more in store
for Sir Byron Laurent Style and Fashion Consulting.
Lawrence is looking forward to launching his brand into
more avenues.
The first year was the hardest for Lawrence due to
being new to blogging and trying to grow his brand.
Lawrence advises upcoming fashion stylists to not let
people and their opinion limit you. All style is objective
but you are responsible for what it represents. He also
adds that you are painting a picture. Be who you are
and don’t let someone hold you back. A great support
system is also important. Lawrence has been happily
married for seven years and looks forward to growing
his family soon.
Lawrence loves to network and meet new people.
He wants longevity for Sir Byron Laurent St yle and
