because he ’ s a Hall of Fame coach , and two , I think it helps get his mind off stuff because you go home to a quiet house and the brain starts racing ,” Scott Schoen said . “ I think this , being part of these kids , is good for him . That ’ s the reason I coach , because dad coaches . And being around the kids , I think , it helps . I know mom would want him to coach , because that ’ s what he does . That ’ s when he ’ s at his best moments , when he ’ s coaching .”
That ’ s why the final moments of Silver Creek ’ s win over South Bend Washington were so important to Scott Schoen .
“ That horn goes off and I turn around and everybody ’ s celebrating . I just turn and I see dad , and there ’ s just a moment there . That ’ s a moment between a dad and a son , you don ’ t get that ( very often ),” he said . “ It ’ s so good because he and I are really close , we ’ ve always been really close . ... It was great , hugging him , him being part of that , me being able to share that with him . We were just two guys who love basketball getting to share that pinnacle moment together .
“ You couldn ’ t write a better script .”
