The explanation seems like common sense – although
many scientists would disagree: Since 60% of the body
is water, and the moon phases can affect the ocean tides
and even cause a bulge in the Earth’s crust, surely it would
have an effect on human beings, right?
Studies have shown that when the moon is full,
emergency rooms are busier, violent crime rates increase,
there are more traffic accidents, more women go into
labour (especially around a Supermoon*), patients in
psychiatric hospitals act out more, and there are more
natural disasters. Are we really that “loonie” around a
full moon?
According to Farmers’ Almanac’s long-standing
proprietary formula, when the moon is in the appropriate
phase and place in the zodiac, it’s widely believed that
activities can also be more fruitful or lead to improved
results. For example, the period between the new and
full moon (first and second quarters) is considered as the
best time to perform tasks that require strength, fertility and
growth, while the period between the full and new moon
(third and fourth quarters) is best for harvesting, slowing
growth, etc. Consideration is also given to the relationship
the moon has with the 12 ruling signs of the zodiac.
