Or this one really caught my eye: A full, double-page ad for
VILLAGE SQUARE mall, located north of Lakeshore between
Elizabeth and Pearl streets, offering a variety of shops. Our
family visited it many times and our daughter Laurel purchased
her wedding dress from one of their establishments. This mall
included such stores as Smart Fashions, Village Butcher Shop,
Deb’n Heir Fashions For Children, Georgie Girl Lingerie
and Loungewear, The Duke of Buckingham Restaurant, Kay
Jewellers, The Village General Store, Hendry’s/Sabrina and
Village Sportique, to name a few.
Also being promoted at that time on behalf of this mall, was
a fashion show to be held at the Reimer Building on South
Service Road. Admission was $6 with all proceeds going to
the March of Dimes.
On the Editorial page was an article titled “City Boaters
Deserve Better Facilities”. The article states that a recent
survey of members of the Burlington Sailing and Boating
Club clearly indicated this need. The article reads that club
members had proposed building docks to provide slips for
more than 500 boats in a protected basin next to LaSalle Park
pier. It certainly would appear today that their wish came true.
