SENIORS MOMENTS by Don Crossley A s many folks know, I am keenly interested in memories from the bygone days of Burlington. Recently I found an old copy of the Burlington Gazette Newspaper, which was first published in 1906 and for nearly 60 years, Burlington’s only newspaper. The copy I found is dated March 13, 1979. Advertisements were placed by many local businesses and unfortunately most of them no longer exist. These included MOTHER’S Pizza Parlour located at 686 Guelph Line, which at the time was a very popular eatery. They were offering a 4-slice pizza for only .99 cents. The Tien Kue Inn at 1106 Plains Road, serving both Canadian and Chinese food, and a spot our family visited on many occasions. The former APPLEBY MALL, at the corner of Appleby Line and New Street advertised a 1.5 litre bottle of PEPSI for only .69 cents. Readers were encouraged to visit the Pepsi booth located that week at the mall, and take the “Pepsi Challenge”. TYANDAGA Homes listed new homes on 70 foot lots with 4-bedrooms, ground-level laundry, 2 ½ bathrooms and family rooms, all for only $89,900. These were being built on such streets a
