Protect your skin
Sunburns can happen on any areas of exposed skin;
ensure to apply sunscreen to the tops of feet.
Reapply often as your feet will perspire more in the
hot weather. Prevent the skin from drying out by
using a urea-based cream on dry or cracked skin.
Prevent fungus
Keep protective footwear on, especially around
pools and water parks or other moist environments
where fungus can thrive. Keeping feet covered will
reduce the chance of picking up any type of Athlete’s
Foot.
Summer footwear – Just say no to flip-flops.
Opt for sandals that have a supportive arch and a
thicker sole. Materials such as cork
provide more cushioning and
shock absorption, and are
better
for
walking.
Adjustable straps are also an
important feature to look for
in order to accommodate
swelling in the ankles and feet,
which often occur in humid weather.

Sweaty or smelly feet?
Perspiration leads to foot odour, use an antiperspirant
to control excessive sweating. Roll on or lotion
antiperspirants work best and are readily available
without a prescription. Using powders and changing
socks frequently also help to reduce moisture that
causes odour.
Nail health
Check the appearance of nails regularly to look for any
changes in colour or thickness. Remove polish
regularly as it can hide early signs of nail problems,
such as fungus. If you spot any irregularities, consult a
Chiropodist.
Did you know...?
Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammatory
disorder of the foot, which long term can lead
to degenerative changes within the structure
of the foot.
Acupuncture treats plantar fasciitis by
reducing local inflammation and enhancing

blood circulation in the feet. By sending
1
signals to the brain to stop inflammation and
swelling, feet begin the recuperation process
and structural deterioration is prevented.
