too loudly, will spoil it for us all.
If I am going to my eye doctor I must use the sidewalk
to cross the QEW. Halton police are very understanding
and at the worst will wave hello. Again, it comes down to
respect and of course patience… I must admit that in the
beginning I was short on patience and found myself telling
the occasional driver of a motor vehicle to “go forth and
fornicate thyself ”. Over time we have learned, for the most
part, to tolerate and be courteous to one another.
Should I go to Oakville they have great bike paths that the
e-scooter, because it can be pedaled, is permitted to travel.
Burlington also has made great strides in providing bike
paths to facilitate the riders.
Besides providing great range the e-scooter can be utilized
as a grocery shopper. As an example, I was at the LCBO
(one man’s sustenance is another man’s libation) and another
senior, whom I did not know, was having a hard time loading
his bicycle with booze that he had picked up for the seniors
at the home where he lives (another bonus, you can shop
for others), so I offered to carry them for him. We road off
into the sunset together.
I use mine primarily on low power (it has a high and low)
and I do not ride with the lights on as it reduces the range,
but then I ride a lot. Year one, I rode it about 360 days as
we had little snow. Year two, I missed one day of riding…
yes I am quirky but then life is too short to fit the box. This
past year was miserable, plus I had surgery, so I have only
hopped back on the e-hog since the snow melted.

Charging of the e-scooter varies on usage, and can take
from 3 to 8 hours at a maximum cost of 30 to 35 cents
per charge. Range can vary depending on hills, wind, your
weight or your speed. But a good rule of thumb for a 48volt battery would be 25 to 30 kilometers, while the 60-volt
would likely do 45 to 50 kilometers over the same terrain,
and with the same rider.
I see more and more e-scooters around town and the riders
vary in age from 16 to 70 + and are both male and female.
Here in town there is a fellow that I talk with on occasion
who takes his wife to the Go train and drops her off for work.
Then there is the single mom in my complex who rides to
her job. Best of all they are cheap to buy, cheap to run and
