I’m excited because gardening is such a powerful way to make a difference – not only at home, but to a whole bunch of wild creatures and our environment. I spent twenty years teaching my girls the value of respect – for their work, their family, toward people whose paths they cross, and toward nature – and I believe that job is never done. So every time I get to plant a seed, whether literally or figuratively, I am thankful. Well okay, I guess you could say I’m a proud hippie. The contest on page 18 is very dear to my heart. I’m a huge supporter of everything-monarch and bee-saving, I even bought the prize with my own chore money, so I’m expecting thousands of entries, please! Send me a line, or a paragraph, and some of your photos, and I’ll submit your entries to the Suzuki Foundation in form of a large essay. It’ll be AWESOME, something to be so proud of. “Be the change,” as they say...
