NOW ’ S THE TIME

One of my favourite childhood memories was of my grandmother ’ s garden in South America . She grew all kinds of edibles – from bananas to figs , potatoes to tomatoes , varieties of herbs and lettuce ... You couldn ’ t see her house from the front gate , it was lush and green .! She even picked every single one of those weeds that infested her huge garden ; it was all her ...
My grandmother taught me that we need to fend for ourselves ; be as self-sufficient as possible . This is the direction of this magazine ’ s issue : Growing your own .
We spend hundreds of dollars on the perfectlymanicured lawn . Why not grow food instead ? If Joe can grow tomatoes , while Sally can be the ‘ herb lady ’ and I grow lettuce ... Collectively we could be saving thousands , and eating amazing , healthy food !
Spring-time is a very inspiring time of year . This is really when we plan our year so let ’ s make it a good one ! And don ’ t forget to plan your Canada 150 experiences ... Rejoice in the place you call home !
If you ’ re gardening , traveling , cooking , send me your spring-time photos : Let ’ s share them so you too can be an inspiration to others ... Happy spring !
