7. Details, details, details. Add a fresh layer of mulch and
soils to the garden. Prune the dead, damaged and diseased
plants. Shape the plants that need pruning. Paint your front
door, and trim. Add art to the garden and exterior of the
home. Finally, place a swing bench or muskoka chairs to
enjoy the garden and a morning coffee or tea.
To recap: first find any problems and plan to fix them;
second, find voids and fill them; third, pressure wash; fourth,
add layers of plants; fifth, clearly define edges; sixth, hide
utilities and make them blend in, and finally seventh, focus
on the details of decorating and adding art.
Have a great time planning and executing. Remember, do
as much as you can yourself, and hire a company to fix only
problems you cannot manage yourself. It will save you time,
money and your sanity. •
