T here is no time like the present to start thinking about
fall events, fairs, and festivals we would like to attend.
Our pick this year:
The Waterford Pumpkinfest,
from October 18th to 20th and
truly the “Pumpkin Capital” you must visit!
Waterford is a great little community that’s not too far
away and part of Norfolk County, just off highway 24
between Port Dover and Brantford. Waterford is rich in
history, with its mill pond created in 1799. Ginseng, cabbage
and other horticultural crops grow in the countryside
around Waterford, and its beautiful Waterford Lakes area
is popular for swimming, fishing, boating and picnicking.
For the annual Pumpkinfest, even local homes and
businesses “dress up” and are judged on the Thursday
before the festival, to see who will be this year’s winner
for the best-decorated establishment – and if you’re
bringing the whole family, even the Midway starts early!

Friday’s events start at 5 pm, with live bands, outdoor
vendors, clothing sales and more, all at the Arena downtown.
Craft cider and beer tents get in full swing, ending the
evening with a fabulous fireworks display.
On Saturday, events start at 10 am with pumpkin
carving contests, pumpkin bowling, the dog show, the
Parade through town at 1 pm, an amazing craft show at
the high school, Waterford is definitely the place things
are happening that weekend!
On Sunday there is the marketplace, the car show at
the high school, scarecrow events, and lots happening
all weekend long… There will be local bands for you to
enjoy and lots of places to eat, and many other events
and places to visit around town including the wonderful
Waterford Heritage & Agricultural museum: a must
see, with special exhibits on during the same weekend

Pack up the family and either drive yourself to Waterford
this October, or consider calling us at Just for You Travel, as
we feature a trip to the Pumpkinfest on Saturday, October
19th. The ride will be comfy, the company outstanding,
and there will even be a mystery stop on the way home!
Happy fall season! www.justforyoutravel.ca

F or Ontario adventurers wanting a quick staycation or day
trip, there’s a city just beyond Buffalo with art, music, theatre
and food, to satisfy even the most sophisticated traveler.
Rochester has a long-standing reputation as the home of
Kodak and George Eastman, but the arts and culture that
grew from and around that legacy is too often overlooked.
On the banks of Lake Ontario and along the Genesee River,
there is burgeoning creative energy and history to be found.
The George Eastman Museum, longtime home of Kodak’s
aforementioned founder, is a National Historic Landmark
that sits on 12 acres. Each room in the opulent mansion is
restored to a different period of Eastman’s life, and an adjoining
museum features year-round exhibits and more than 400,000
photographs and negatives dating back to the invention of
photography, along with 25,000 motion picture films (some
of which are screened regularly and during special events at
the Dryden Theatre on the property). The estate was also once
a working farm, and the formal gardens have been preserved
for visitors to tour.
For visual art enthusiasts, the Memorial Art Gallery features
5,000 years of history through more than 12,000 paintings and
artifacts, as well as a sculpture park, public art installations,
camps, yearly rotating exhibitions, concerts, lectures, and
family activities. A cafe offering locally sourced food and
beverages is also on the campus.
Further downtown, visitors will find Geva Theater Center,
Rochester’s regional, professional theater. While Broadway
tours come through town elsewhere, all of Geva’s season is
rehearsed, built and performed right in Rochester.
