Following the successful launch during the 3rd UNWTO Silk Road Ministers’ Meeting held last March at ITB Berlin 2013, the UNESCO/UNWTO Silk Road Heritage Corridors Tourism Strategy Project is now underway.

UNWTO and UNESCO, together with heritage and tourism experts from the five participating countries, are developing a comprehensive and sustainable Silk Roads Heritage Corridors Tourism Strategy focused on two heritage corridors crossing five countries: China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

On 22 June 2014, the World Heritage Committee inscribed a section of the

Silk Roads network submitted by Kyrgyzstan, China and Kazakhstan on the World Heritage List.

About the Roadmap

This Roadmap was developed based on the decisions of the UNESCO/UNWTO Silk

Road Heritage Corridors Tourism Strategy Workshop held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on

7–8 October, 2013, supported by the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of

the Republic of Kazakhstan and the UNESCO/Netherlands Funds-in-Trust.
