Greetings to all colleagues and collaborators . Welcome to the 3rd edition of our newsletter . It ’ s a privilege to be connecting with you through our regional newsletter . Having only been in the world of palliative care for the last couple of years , I ’ m so amazed of the passion displayed by each and every person I encounter . It is so clear that this passion is the source for the hunger for always creating innovative content , striving for more educational opportunities , and networking in a meaningful way , all to better serve our patients and address their needs .
SIIPSC Mission
Serve as the leading Regional Resource Center ( RCC ) for the discovery , dissemination , education and sharing of palliative and supportive care principles and practice in the Southeast US .
The Southeast Institute strives to ( 1 ) Serve as a source to interprofessional , practitioner , public ( individuals and teams ) of Palliative Care education , information and opportunities , ( 2 ) Provide networking and connecting platforms and opportunities for palliative and supportive care professionals from the Southeast US to exchange ideas , knowledge and opportunities , ( 3 ) Share educational material resources and information through all forms of print and social media . The success of these objectives depend on successful collaborations regionally and nationally . In this edition of our newsletter , you will read about such collaborations , highlighting the works of Drs . Karen Bullock , Christie Khandelwal and Ronit Elk . You will also read about Dr . Sheena Gazaway , an Assistant Professor in the UAB School of Nursing and her wonderful journey .
We are so happy to be able to offer you educational opportunities such as African American Communities Speak Workshop , InterProfessional Eduction eXchange ( IPEX ) and the Northwestern Professional Development Workshop .
As always , we welcome your input to our content . If you have stories to share or initiatives you would like to disseminate to our colleagues in the palliative care arena , please reach out to us . We would be happy to collaborate with you and get the word out !
Guiding Principles
All knowledge and information disseminated , taught and shared will : Be evidence-based , implementable , scaleable , sustainable and innovative ; They will also be communitybased and culturally sensitive . There will be a focus on health equity , access and social justice .
