Most importantly , the intervention slowed the decline of physical function among these cancer survivors . The AMPLIFY interventions use features of the Beat Cancer and RENEW interventions that were found to be essential to achieve significant behavior and health improvements .
The AMPLIFY study team , comprised of experts in diet , exercise , behavioral science and cancer survivorship at both the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center , adapted both BEAT Cancer and RENEW to a web-based platform that can be delivered via computers , tablets , and smartphones to enhance dissemination potential . This adaptation was accomplished with significant input from cancer survivors themselves who provided upfront information on what may be welcome and acceptable on a web-based program , and extensive beta-testing of the initial prototypes of the interventions .
More than 130 cancer survivors from across the US are currently enrolled in the AMPLIFY randomized clinical trial . Recruitment will continue through 2022 to reach a target of 652 cancer survivors . The study is opened to survivors 50 and older across the continental US who had breast , prostate , colorectal , endometrial , ovarian , renal , and thyroid cancers , as well as multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin ’ s lymphoma . This is possible since the intervention and the assessments can be done exclusively via the internet . Details are included in the Table below .
