Signature Stories Vol 6 | Página 4

from the founding artistic director DEAR SIGNATURE FAMILY: AS WE LAUNCH THE THIRD SEASON IN OUR NEW HOME, IT HAS BEEN THRILLING TO SEE THE CENTER EVOLVE AND GROW. WE HAVE A TERRIFIC ROSTER OF ALL-PREMIERE PLAYS AHEAD AND WE ARE EAGER TO SHARE THE COMING YEAR AT THE CENTER WITH YOU. We begin the 2013-14 Season with offerings from our Residency Five and Legacy Programs. Residency Five was launched with the opening of the Center in 2011, and the development of the program has resulted in four new works this season: stop. reset. by Regina Taylor, Cheri by Martha Clarke, Appropriate by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, and Signature’s second premiere by Will Eno. Each of these writers has made a home with us to further their work, and each has forged a singular process and path to production. This is exactly what we imagined when we planned for this program at the Center, and we look forward to sharing these premieres from four such distinct voices. Our Legacy Program allows us to continue to explore the work of our former resident writers, even those who are sadly no longer with us. We have the unique honor this season of presenting two premieres by Horton Foote and August Wilson. I want to especially thank Hallie Foote for supporting us as we present Horton’s play, The Old Friends, and Constanza Romero for her support of our production of August’s solo show, How I Learned What I Learned. The legacy of these great writers will live on through their plays and the continued work of their longtime colleagues Michael Wilson, who will direct The Old Friends, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, who will perform How I Learned What I Learned, and Todd Kreidler, one of August’s closest and most important collaborators, who directs. Finally, we culminate our season and David Henry Hwang’s time as Residency One Playwright with the world premiere of Kung Fu this spring. David has fully embraced every facet of his residency and has truly made the Center his home. Working with us on a daily basis in the rehearsal rooms and administrative offices, representing Signature at special events, conceiving and curating an international reading series last spring, and developing Kung Fu every step of the 3 5
