El Warren is a California-born, San Francisco Bay Area based musician whose genre-bending music spans numerous rock and roll forms. He writes, sings and performs all instruments on his newest release, Just a Little More. Warren is heavily influenced by melodic but off-kilter rock music from the 1960s through contemporary times. Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, Feelies, Wilco, Husker Du, Sufjan Stevens, Neko Case, Camper Van Beethoven, Grateful Dead, M Ward, etc, but also alt-country performers such as the Jayhawks, James McMurtry, and the like. Warren grew up listening to folk music and spent his teen years scouring Los Angeles record stores for rare 7 inch punk and underground vinyl imports. He writes songs on 12-string acoustic guitar he then overlays with harmonic and dynamic variations via voice, electric guitars, and other instrumentation. His principle instrument is bas guitar. Lyrics range from hyper-personal to hyper political. Just a Little More includes a songs about dismantling borders (To Churn the Soil), his family members' experience of racism and antisemitism in Alabama and the obligation to fight white supremacy (Southern Lights), homelessness (Tears on the Dashboard), going to jail (Gone Gone), resisting militarism (Too Late), but also Bacchanalian songs (Just a Little More Caffeine & Alcohol), relationships gone bad (Maybe Just a Little More Than You) and regret at the weekend's end (Sunday Blues). Besides performing and releasing his own music, Warren plays bass guitar for the Southern Rock/Psychedelic Rock band The Black Marshmallows.
