Lydia Parish: The Nescafe Drinking, Wi-Fi Seeking Artist in Sinai's City of Gold
I first met Lydia while I was working at a restaurant on the shore of Dahab, Sinai as a waiter, event planner, website developer, and renovator. In exchange for my services I got room and board and food for free, but we needed customers to pay for our own food. Lydia was a customer passing by in the early morning looking for a place that was open with working Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, the restaurant's W-Fi was being fixed at the time so I opened up the hotspot on my phone gave her the password and served her a cup of Nescafe.
During her stay we got to talking and both realized we come from the U.S.A where everyone thinks they are in the best place on Earth, but haven't seen a paradise like the one we were sitting at where people get lost with intentions to stay only a week and end up staying for months at a time, or even end up living there. Then the subject of art came up when she noticed the artwork done on the outside and the inside, which she noticed only by peeking through the window and open and door since she preferred to enjoy the morning sun and air with the sound of the sea crashing into nearby boats that nobody really used, but just had sitting out for decoration, or to make it clear that this indeed is the sea.
Her artwork has been sold in private collections in Egypt, Dubai, Italy, and the USA. One of her paintings can go anywhere from $14,000 to $50,000 according to her 2 most recent sales.
