The Lifers Group had to go through just that. They are a group of artists and musicians who decided to rap about their experience in jail and were actually heard. Picard Galette, AKA Original, is part of the grammy nominated Lifers group and was kind of enough to give us some insight on the music and the movement that they tried to create.
Not only where they heard, yes they were nominated for the Grammy's, and appeared in the Smithsonian, whose website I got these photos from.
