Last month, in our review of the first battle for OLENSFEST, you could read all anout MY OWN GHOST's performance. By now, the band had to

cancel their spot in the finals, because they have been signed to tour with TARJA TURUNEN. We need no more reason to review their album LIFE ON STANDBY.

Somewhat spacy, but swiftly followed by some guitars to releave you from all doubts. No better way do describe title song LIFE ON STANDBY. The song is a perfect display of what MY OWN GHOST are capable of. Crystal clear vocals, warm riffs and a refined overal sound. EVERYTIME I BREAK sounds much more powerfull, and is a song that shows what the band can do live. With an orchestration that brought me back to the ninetees, but still sounds modern, this is one of my favorites on the album. This is rock of a high level.

ALIVE caught my ear for another reason. In it, there's a fine piece of "slapping", that surprised me in a good way. The whole song sounds powerfull, and could be a radio hit. With WEEKS OF SUMMER, the band confirms their status as great live band. With a solid beat and plenty of variation, this is a song that pulls you on to the dance-floor.

Towards the end of the album NO AIR catches my attention. It's opening tune is an interpretation of WHAT WILL WE

DO WITH THE DRUNKEN SAILOR, that's slightly spooky sounding. The whole album is a must have for every fan of modern rock. MY OWN GHOST have delivered a fine hour of music, with great orchestrations and solid songs. At my place, this one will be on top of the stack for a while, to play when I'm doing some of my jobs here at home.

With a score of 8,4/10, LIFE ON STANDBY should be in your collection too.
