‘‘Yaa devi sarbabhuteshshu sakti

Namasteshwai Namasteshwai Namasteshwai

Maa Durga represents the infinite power of the
universe. She is incomprehensible and a symbol of
a female dynamism and strength. She is the
Goddess of divine power or Shakti against all evils;
she epitomizes the victory of Good over Evil. Maa
Durga was first worshipped by Shri Ram in autumnal
ritual. He invoked the Goddess before going to war
with the demon king Ravana. Whenever demonic
forces create imbalance, all Gods unite to create
one divine force which is known as Shakti or Durga.
Mahishasura, the buffalo demon, after years of
penance, austerity and prayers to Lord Shiva
earned a boon that he could not be killed by any
man or deity but only by a woman. In his arrogance
he could never think that he could be killed by a
woman. With the boon by his side, he gained
invincible strength and started ravaging the whole
world. Eventually, he wanted to uproot the Gods
too. The Gods were afraid of this monster because
neither Vishnu nor Shiva could defeat his strength.
