Kevin Mitchell CEO In the beginning... I grew up sweeping floors and tearing tickets in movie theatres; something I didn’t appreciate at the time, but certainly do today. Founding your own circuit... I left Cinemark in 2007 for several reasons. First, I felt like my growth had stunted by a larger public company; one where my father was chairman. But the primary reason was that I had my own ideas and concepts I wanted to explore, and didn’t have the freedom to do so while working for others. What sets ShowBiz Cinemas apart... For starters, we’re more than just a theatre; we’re a true destination zone for family entertainment. We’ve brought the excitement of bowling, movies, games, bars, and more all together under one roof. Most importantly; we lead by example. You won’t find an overpriced or dirty theatre in our circuit. We pride ourselves on providing a first class entertainment experience to every customer that walks through our doors. Things you’d change about the cinema business... I think the Studio/Exhibition relationship should be more of a partnership, one that is beneficial to all parties. Partnerships are formed by give and take on both sides of the fence. Our friends in the industry need to be thinking more about tomorrow, and not just today. Giving back to the industry that we serve... I’ve been a proud member of NATO for many years, and currently serve on the board for Theatre Owners of Mid America as well. Additionally, I give and serve to the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation. I also set policies for our company that truly give back to the communities. For example; Friday Night Football is our biggest competitor in Texas. However, instead of trying to compete with local sporting events, we embrace them by getting involved and sponsoring the schools and their students. The future... The future looks great. We have seen an incredible amount of growth, having doubled our size over past two years in a row. We’re currently on track to open three to four new locations annually. Best advice you ever received... #1: Run your business with honesty and integrity. #2: Treat your customers the way you want to be treated. #3: Be passionate about your career path and enjoy it. Most influential person... My father is a true pioneer for the cinema industry. He leads by example in both his professional and personal life. Favorite movie... The Godfather. It was a quality picture that still holds up today, a classic. ShowTime Preview Guide – Fall 2016 • 69
