Should The CEO Be In The Kitchen?
By Reuben Kisigwa
A CEO ' s presence is about how they connect with people and systems. It’ s a mix of trusting people while having structured oversight. This kind of presence becomes a way to manage risk where the culture and the day-to-day operations meet. A CEO doesn ' t have to be physically everywhere to influence the business. Instead, they stay present through clear systems, consistent focus, and quiet observation.
Without mechanisms to bypass silos such as skip-level meetings or direct front-line check-ins, a CEO becomes a prisoner of their own organizational chart. Stepping into the kitchen to " taste the soup " isn’ t micromanagement; it is an essential audit of the information supply chain. If the CEO doesn ' t occasionally see the raw ingredients, they cannot be sure of the final output.
