Shotcaller Magazine Best of Your Best v2.0 | Page 10

This month, we had the pleasure of joining our friends at Local Ambition in St. Louis, Missouri to see how they coordinated their casting auditions for season 7. Local ambition is a modeling reality series, similar to America's next top model, with lots of twists and turns and full of drama.

They had over 100 aspiring models through the doors during their two-day event interviewing aspiring cast members. We got to sit in on the audition and photo shoot process. It was fun watching the models being "interrogated" about their skills and interest in being part of the show. Kevin did an amazing job organizing and the location was perfect! The building was a staple for the art scene downtown St. Louis. The views were spectacular and the space has endless opportunity. We had the privilege of meeting tons of creative people, including, models, photographers, casting directors, film producers, videographers, and many other artists. I'm excited to see what's in store for next season!

I made it a priority to get a few interviews from some of the cast members from last season, the director, and producer of Local ambition. I'd like to share some of their Q&A's because I think this team is super fun and you will enjoy what they had to say!

What inspired you to produce Local Ambition?

"I started as a P.A, for the show and worked my way up. I wanted to be more involved with the creative process."

Do you have a favorite character from any past season?

Chelsi and Nana from season 6. Chelsi was the " mean girl" who caused a lot of the drama, which was fun to watch. Nana was very real and outspoken and likes to tell it how it is. She is one of those people who doesn't care about what anyone thinks of her, and it is extremely refreshing.

Do you have any funny stories from past filming or audition sessions?

One day of filming, we had the girls outside on a cold day and none of them were wearing bras so clearly you could see their nipples through their wardrobe. I was concerned about it and commented but none of them seemed to care. Models are very open I realized and we just kept on filming and rolled with it.

Any hints on what's to come next season?

All I can say is be prepared to be amazed.

Can you describe the creator, Kevin Edwards?

He has a mean and serious facial expression all the time, but really funny and nice once you get to know him. He also really loves his plaid shirts.

How long have you been in the modeling business?

I started about two years ago. When I would be out shopping,

I'd love to model in front of the mirror.

It became obvious that modeling was my calling.

What's your favorite type of modeling?

I love doing editorial work and dramatic posing.

Do you have any rituals before or after your photo shoots?

The night before a shoot, I practice my poses and prepare my concept and wardrobe.

On the day of my shoots, I have to have my coffee to get me going!

How long have you been modeling for?

I have been modeling for about 1.5 years now. My mom was a hair model for Redken and the industry always intrigued me. I had tried out for Local Ambition for a few seasons and didn't make it, but was thrilled when I made it on to Season 6.

What was your favorite challenge during the season?

I loved the episode where we had to make our own monster. Unfortunately, I was not in the episode, but I loved seeing all the creativity from the cast members and watching their ideas come to life.

Do you have any advice for aspiring models?

Modeling isn't what it used to be. You can be yourself and whoever you want and find a market that fits your style.
