will let us immerse in experiment( unxpctd. mov section) or lose ourselves to dance( Dances with Camera section), compare the level of Polish Competition with the International one, watch the Christoph Girardet retrospective, see the Matthias Wermke and Mischa Leinkauf exhibition, the panorama of films awarded in Oberhausen and selected titles from ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival. For a long time, there has been a consensus among short film festival selectors that the United Kingdom is a true treasury of excellent storytelling and funny short productions. They seem to be a great choice for a festival Friday evening, not worse than promising Hot Shorts section.
Naturally, it is only a small fragment of this year’ s program, while its border-defying versatility, giving the viewers the freedom of choice, perfectly demonstrates a certain characteristic of short films, namely liberty which is much more noticeable than in case of the longer forms. Without pressure to woo the audience or to guess the preferences of“ taste arbitrators” deciding on the victory of full-length productions in Cannes or Berlin, the authors of short forms are simply in for less calculation. Thanks to that, short form is the true kingdom of cinematic freedom. The kingdom is worth venturing out into and coming back as often as possible, for it is little known, yet full of adventures, mysteries, and wonders.
