In the end , your palate is your own . It ’ s like a fingerprint . It is uniquely yours . People may have similar preferences , or they may gravitate towards certain flavors but no one can tell you that you ’ re wrong . Taste is subjective . Your olfactory sense is intrinsically tied to memory . You ’ re inhaling your childhood . If you think it smells like butterscotch , that ’ s because it probably does . And I love butterscotch .

Whiskey and where it is made can be subdivided into myriad categories . Different countries , different grains . The most common thing I hear is “ Do you like scotch or whisky ” or “ Do you prefer bourbon over whiskey ?”. Whether it comes from Scotland , Ireland , The United States or anywhere else in the entire world , it is all called whisk ( e ) y . Scotch whisky can only be made in Scotland ( where they just call it whisky !). Irish whiskey can only be made in Ireland and so on . Notice the two different spellings ? Look up at the first word of this article . The ‘ e ’ is parenthetical . The quick answer is that if the country of origin has an ‘ e ’ in it , then it ’ s whiskies are spelled accordingly . Kind of confusing but as you know , everyone does it different .

These days , you can get whiskey from all over the world . Not only from Scotland , Ireland or the U . S ., but also places like France , Iceland , India , New Zealand and Australia . I have even tried some amazing Dutch whiskey . Every one of these countries have their own unique take on this amazing spirit . It ’ s a global community that just keeps getting better with every bottle .
