CAPE MAY / WILDWOOD SALTWATER FISHING REPORT
Provided by Cape May Bait & Tackle
We’ re still getting reports of black drum fish in the 30-50 pound range being caught in the Delaware Bay on fresh surf clams and crabs. The boaters fishing the Wildwood and Cape May reef sites have been catching good numbers of black sea bass and some keeper size fluke( summer flounder) on clams and squid. Just as a reminder, black sea bass season closes on June 19th and will reopen on July 1st with just a 1 fish per person possession limit until August 31st. Along the beaches anglers have been landing kingfish and croakers on fishbites and bloodworms. The Cape May beaches have also been producing some fluke caught on minnows and Gulp swim baits. As water temps continue to rise there should be an increasing number of fluke on the beaches, using a 7 foot rod and small bucktails tipped with small Gulp swim mullets are a great way to land a big flattie. There were also some sheepshead caught around the area bridges and beach jetties on crabs and tog jigs. Look for the crabbing in the back bays to get better as summer continues, we’ ve already had some good reports of big blue claw crabs behind Wildwood. Tight lines, Cape May Bait & Tackle.
