Farewell, and Thank You
After 46 years of service, the time has come for us to say goodbye.
This is our final issue, marking the end of a journey that began with a simple mission: to inform, connect, and serve the people of Cape May County. Since our very first edition in 1979, we’ ve had the privilege of chronicling the stories, triumphs, and everyday moments of this remarkable community.
It is with deep gratitude, and heavy hearts, that we announce the closing of our newspaper following the passing of our founder and owner. Their passion for The Shoppe and unwavering belief in the power of community inspired everything we did. Through changing times, shifting technology, and evolving readership, their commitment never wavered.
We owe everything to you, our readers, advertisers, contributors, and friends. You welcomed us into your homes, shared your stories, trusted us with your voices, and stood by us through every edition. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives. Your support gave us purpose, and your loyalty gave us longevity.
To our writers, designers, sales members, printers, delivery teams, and all who worked behind the scenes: thank you for your dedication. Together, we built something meaningful.
Though this chapter closes, we leave behind nearly five decades of local history, captured in print— each page a piece of Cape May County’ s story. It has been an honor to serve as your hometown newspaper.
From all of us here, thank you for 46 wonderful years. We will miss you.
With heartfelt appreciation,
The Staff of SHOPPE, CMC Shoppers Guide Jean Nagle, Mary Ellen Galman, Edwin Williamson, Ross Anderton, Janice Engelke, Sheri Wilson, & Marian Zionz
