C h u b b y,
who
is
Chubby
and where
are
you
based?
Chubby : Madoda Tshutsha from
KZN, Clermont. Clermont is a
township in the heart of Durban,
KZN, South Africa. But my parents
are actually from the Eastern Cape
Province in South Africa.
Sho!Mag : The stage name “Chubby”
where and how did that come about?
Chubby : It’s actually funny…
When I was younger
I’ve always wanted to
be a Deejays. So I
had a friend then,
his family owned
a Shop where we
used to hang
out at. So there
was this cold
drink we used
to enjoy a lot
and apparently
it was called
“Chubby” and
its logo had a
chubby guy in it
and I must admit
the guy in the logo
looked just a bit like me.
So my friend Junior and I
thought it would be a great
idea to the name “Chubby”
as my Deejay name and if
I ended up making it in the
Music Industry then my stage name
would be “Chubby Da Dj”, but that
never happened as I took the route
and became a Music Compiler
and I somehow used that name as
the title of my Debut Compilation
Album “Good Music According To
Chubby”.
Sho!Mag : In the African House
Music Scene, what part are you
actually playing?
Chubby : I work a lot with
international recording labels, so
I help underground producers
to release their music within
these labels. I can safely say that
I take African House Music to
the International Arena and the
response has been a positive one.
Sho!Mag : So what do you prefer
the most? Is it deejaying or music
production?
Chubby : I just love House Music
and it has always been my dream to
be in this exciting industry. I really
don’t mind which role I play within
House Music as it has always been
my dream to be in this industry and
to make it a better one.
Sho!Mag : Chubby, when did you
notice that you had love for House
Music and what sparked that love
for House Music? “Do you have
any musical influences”?
Chubby : The serious
love for House Music
started when I was
doing Grade 8. My
friend
Ntokozo
introduced me to
some Deep House
Music, by that time
Blackcoffee
was
a
Deep/Soulful
House
Music
Producer
and
likes of Stimming ,
Rocco, Louis Vega,
Culoe De Song and
many more caught my
attention. Since those,
I never looked back and
it has always been about
House Music. Right now
I’m influenced by artists
such as Deep Mayer, Teddy
Esposito, Smangar M, Masa,
