Being a Leader is more than having the title

I love, love this month’s theme of Leadership. Time and time again I see
people who want to lead but do not follow their own advice. Imagine how
difficult it is for employees who report to a leader when they don’t lead
themselves? Yes, I said it. Leadership starts with oneself.
Let me ask you something, have you ever had a boss you reported to who
did not lead by example? Telling you to arrive on time when they were
late or asking you to organize your desk when theirs was a total mess.
The same goes with your style, especially when you are a leader. What did
you say? You are too busy to put cute outfits together. Let me tell you this,
you can’t afford not to look the part as you are leading people.
Whether you have a job or own a company, it is important to keep your
eyes on your next level, or your next promotion. Your direct reports
should be doing the same. But, they won’t if they don’t see you leading
by example.
