Maybe you need to refresh your resume. Perhaps you may want to
brush up on your interviewing skills. Here are a few tips that may assist
you in meeting your goal of career development.
• Ask yourself, “What are my career goals?” Make a point to sit
down and really decide if you are happy with the direction of
your career.
• Research, Research, Research. Actively explore your field of
choice by searching different websites and even speaking with
those employed in your perspective field.
• Begin the job search. Utilize the internet and job search engine
sites. Look for careers and jobs that are in the field of your
interest.
• Develop or update your resume. Your resume is the employer’s
first glimpse of you. You want to make a great first impression.
The goal is for your resume to stand out from everyone in the
pack.
• Prepare for the interview. Make certain that you are familiar with
the company you are interviewing with. Be certain to know every
aspect of the position for which you have applied. Know how
your qualifications and experience match up to the job.
• Give thanks. Always send the person or person’s you’ve
interviewed with a thank you letter. A simple note of thanks can
go a long way. We are in the age of technology and an email is
fine. However, a mailed thank you letter is great too. Thank you
emails or letters should be sent off no later than two days after
the interview.
Tackling your career development can be a scary process. Yet, just like
revamping your look it can give you a completely different outlook
on life.
