In high school, I was a member of National Honor Society (NHS) and we did numerous community services throughout the year. Volunteering at Special Olympics was one of them. I have been helping out since 2012 and in my senior year, I was assigned to a girl with intellectual disability. She couldn't walk very much or verbalize her words, but she was genuine and full of sunshine. I was touched how hardworking she was. It made me want to help students with disabilities achieve their goals. I want to be a teacher that makes a difference for the better. It is also essential to start interventions at a young age, which is why I want to be a special education teacher for early childhood.
