1953

Visit from the Superior General of the Order of Our Lady of the Missions, Rev Mother Mary St Denis McSweeney.

The Order already had a Convent in Perth. The Sisters had a great devotion to St Theresa and prayed to her to obtain the necessary funds for the project. Their faith was rewarded and a decision was made to build a College for secondary students in Oakleigh.

1956

Mother Theophane arrived in Oakleigh to begin preparation for the College.

Father Coyne provided thee small rooms in the SH Primary school for classes to begin. The first occupant of the College was a statue of St Theresa, donated by Mrs Freeman (Stacie Fogarty) in memory of her mother.

1957

The College opened with 97 students from Forms 1 – 4, with four full time and two part time teachers.

The first assembly of students in the college hall was conducted by Mother Theophane.

Archbishop Daniels Mannix opened the College on Pentecost Sunday.

1958

The Leaving Certificate class of Year 11 was introduced.

1959

The first Matriculation class of Year 12 was introduced. All year levels from Forms 1 to 6 had only one stream.

1960

A Grade Registration provided by Government.

1967

The College Science wing completed.

1968

A second stream of students added to some year levels.

Mother Theophane’s final year as Principal

1969

Sr Theresa Parish commenced as Principal.

In October Mother Theophane left Oakleigh to go to Fribourg, Switzeland.
