Ceremony
Photographers were everywhere at the opening ceremony. The Architecture Faculty of the University of Melbourne sent its own photographer to take pictures, which were later featured in its annual magazine.
A life-sized statue of the pleading Heart, a gift from Mother St Margaret's sister in Auckland, stood on the stage . The open arms of the statue welcomed not only the first pupils, but all those those who would follow in later years.
Our new College was solemnly blessed by the venerable ninety four year old Archbishop, Dr. Mannix. It was a gloriously sunny midwinter day, and more than a thousand people attended.
