sons have been prepared for national exams because
of quality teaching and exceptional staff. Even
beyond the classroom and the school year, Kerry
says Sherman teachers never stop caring for their
students. “In the grocery
store I’ll see teachers my
sons had in elementary
school,” Kerry said. “They’ll
take the time to ask how
they’re doing or congratulate
us on a success they heard
about, because they are still
invested in their lives, and
they still see themselves as
their teachers.”
A Bearcat
Teacher…
Kerry is a teacher herself.
For the past 20 years she has taught at Fairview
Elementary, working with students challenged by
dyslexia. She’s proud to work in a school district
where every child has a chance to succeed every day,
because throughout the organization children are the
priority. “Sherman has always been very supportive
of all students,” Kerry said. “The past two years have
been particularly special because of the revitalized
pride and excitement we’ve seen, not just in sports
but through every part of our schools. It’s drawing
our community closer. Small actions like bringing
back the cat-walk letters have really made a big
impact.” Kerry attributes part of the new-found
excitement to coaches who
have joined Sherman ISD.
“They’re believing in kids
and making kids believe in
themselves. That’s caught on
and the community has rallied
behind us.”
A Bearcat Family…
A simple decision made
nearly half a century ago,
when Kerry’s in-laws decided
to move to Sherman, started
the Bedgood’s Bearcat
traditions. Contributing to the
community is something the family has done for
decades and will continue to do for many more.
This family understands how important it is for a
city, a community, and its schools to have strong
partnerships. “To attract people to a community,
you have to have a great school system,” Kerry
said. “Support from the city and its businesses
only make our schools stronger.”
