“ We are creating a pipeline of workers for our local manufacturers and health care – the top two industries in our area ,” Bates said . “ Economically , it is important to keep those businesses here .”
Overall , SISD CTE courses are focused on providing students with more than job opportunities – they learn applicable experience they can use outside the classroom including soft skills , like communication and leadership , precursors for success outside of high school .
“ We are trying to get them in gear and focused for post-secondary endeavors ,” Gruhn said . “ The fact is we are a focused program that takes pride on not just the number of certifications available or students in our classes , but also on the quality and depth of knowledge those students gain .”
