Next Steps
Sherman ISD is looking to the future – the future of its community,
schools and students. To that end, SISD has engaged a dynamic group
of stakeholders to help decide the next steps for the district.
“I’ve often said, ‘Great communities have great
schools, and Sherman is a perfect example of this,”
SISD Assistant Superintendent Tyson Bennett said.
“We’re truly committed to providing exceptional
educational services for our students, families
and community.”
Beginning in October, the SISD Citizens Advisory
Committee (CAC) began reviewing a wide range
of data, assessing district needs, and collaborating
with staff and community members, to ultimately
make critical recommendations on a long range
plan for educational programs and facilities for
the district.
“The committee’s mission is to examine our current
enrollment, educational, financial and facility data
and recommend a course of action to our Board

of Trustees regarding the facility improvements
that will create a future ready, world-class
learning environment in Sherman ISD,” SISD
Superintendent Dr. David Hicks said.
In its first meeting Oct. 3, Hicks and SISD Board
of Trustees President Tim Millerick welcomed the
group and discussed the vital role the committee
plays in the future of Sherman children, schools,
and community. They discussed the district’s
mission and vision, accomplishments, vast
programming and learned more about facilities.
As a matter of perspective, SISD schools average
more than 46 years in use with six of 12 facilities
exceeding 60 years in use and age. Three
facilities are 85, 76, and 73 years in age. Since the
