SHERMAN ISD HITS RECORD ENROLLMENT
The enrollment for Sherman ISD has grown by
more than 1,000 students in the past 10 years, and
is expected to grow by another 1,000 students over
the next 10 years.
“Our growth has been
steady,” Sherman ISD
Superintendent Dr.
David Hicks said. “That
allows us to plan for
continued growth, as
we’ve seen in areas and
districts south of us.”
Enrollment for the
district is more than
7,500 students – more
than 200 students
over last school year’s
enrollment - a record
enrollment.
According to Sherman
City Manager Robby
Hefton, the relationship
between a growing
school district and a
growing community is a
positive one.

“One of the most
important and effective
economic development tools the city has is a healthy

school system,” Hefton said. “Sherman ISD has healthy
fund balances; they maintain a balanced budget; and
SISD is not only focused on preparing college-bound
students, it’s also currently part of a communitywide effort
to prepare students for jobs
in our local workforce.”
The largest student
population increase in
Sherman ISD occurred at
the intermediate and high
school level, with a 7.8%
increase at Dillingham
Intermediate and 6.8% at
Sherman High School.
“Sixty students in one year
may not seem like a lot, but
for a campus that is already
more than 500 students
over capacity, that makes
a big impact,” Sherman
High School Principal
Chris Mogan said. “Our
enrollment growth impacts
our student opportunities
and programs. It takes
considerable planning to
keep up with the pace of
student growth.”
