SHERMAN ISD HITS RECORD ENROLLMENT The enrollment for Sherman ISD has grown by more than 1,000 students in the past 10 years, and is expected to grow by another 1,000 students over the next 10 years. “Our growth has been steady,” Sherman ISD Superintendent Dr. David Hicks said. “That allows us to plan for continued growth, as we’ve seen in areas and districts south of us.” Enrollment for the district is more than 7,500 students – more than 200 students over last school year’s enrollment - a record enrollment. According to Sherman City Manager Robby Hefton, the relationship between a growing school district and a growing community is a positive one. QUICK FACTS CURRENT ENROLLMENT 7,515 STUDENTS LARGEST CLASS 4TH GRADE, 618 INCREASE LAST 10 YEARS 1000+ STUDENTS “One of the most important and effective economic development tools the city has is a healthy 14 school system,” Hefton said. “Sherman ISD has healthy fund balances; they maintain a balanced budget; and SISD is not only focused on preparing college-bound students, it’s also currently part of a communitywide effort to prepare students for jobs in our local workforce.” The largest student population increase in Sherman ISD occurred at the intermediate and high school level, with a 7.8% increase at Dillingham Intermediate and 6.8% at Sherman High School. “Sixty students in one year may not seem like a lot, but for a campus that is already more than 500 students over capacity, that makes a big impact,” Sherman High School Principal Chris Mogan said. “Our enrollment growth impacts our student opportunities and programs. It takes considerable planning to keep up with the pace of student growth.” At more than 600 students each, third and fourth grades are both close to surpassing
