Sherlock Holmes and the Engineer's Thumb 1 | Page 20
Luke Christie
A large bang on the door awoke me, sherlock still asleep after a very long night. A
few more followed until I got out of bed my knees still weak. I opened the door to see
a ghostly white envelope. I opened it and turned over the black piece of card to see
only an address. 74 Kensington street. Sherlock awoke by the flood of light seeping
into our room he said my name in a seductive voice but scared of what I had found I
ran out the house still in my scruffy nightgown. Fleeing away from the house
collapsing from my knees after every step still frail. I scurried around in my pockets
for my phone until I found it for some odd reason it was smashed I didn’t remember it
this way but I overlooked that fact and went on the maps app found the address and
just ran.
I arrived to see an abandoned brewery with nothing but one particular engineer’s
thumb hanging by a thread from the ceiling.
I heard another bang the next day but afraid I knew what was coming next if I
answered the door so laying back down next to sherlock I close my eyes and tried to
get some sleep failing to do so the knocking repeating itself in my head like an itch I
can’t scratch.
