Shenandoah unveiled its vision for
Winchester’s eastern gateway off Route
50 during a Winchester City Council
work session in October. The design,
developed by The Van Yahres Studio of
BCWH Architects, creates a new gateway
to the city of Winchester and rejuvenates
the southern edge of the university’s
campus. Five elements are highlighted in
the design — the Winchester Entrance,
Abrams Creek Dell, Corner Garden,
Wetland Garden and Main Entrance. Final
choices for materials and landscaping have
yet to be made, but the design presented
to City Council provides a detailed
representation of the gateway’s appearance.
Hundreds participated in 2013
Homecoming weekend in October. At
the homecoming football game, senior
mass communications majors Aysha
Malik of Germantown, Md., and Myles
Hairston of Martinsville, Va., were crowned
homecoming queen and king. Other events
included the Old Town crawl, alumni
celebration dinner, Pit Party, alumni athletic
games and more. The Office of Alumni
