SMCAA consults with local and provincial governments, as well as inspectors, regarding code changes, permits, standards of practice and legal issues concerning our industry.

SMCAA is an advocate for all members, who are facing the same questions, challenges, concerns and issues in Alberta’ s HVAC industry. SMCAA has technical liaison committees in Calgary and Edmonton that meet monthly with their respective inspectors to deal with issues facing SMCAA members.

SMCAA members are provided with up-to-date information on the industry and are made aware of any current STANDATAs released by Municipal Affairs that may affect their business practices.

SMCAA is currently involved with the Alberta Trade Contractors Coalition, which has 11 other trade association members. Together, we are working hard to pass prompt payment legislation in Alberta.

SMCAA has representation in several industry-related associations including SMACNA, SMWIA # 8, Calgary Construction Association, Safety Codes Council and the Alberta Apprenticeship Committee. We also have representatives on the Alberta Construction Association Board with their Government Action Committee, Partnerships in Education, Research & Technology, Safety / WCB and Standard Practices. SMCAA also has HVAC representation on the Building Technical Council.

SMCAA participates in many career fairs in the province including working with CAREERS Next Generation in hosting a Sheet Metal Showcase for students and parents. Our goal is to promote our industry and make HVAC the trade career of choice.

SMCAA provides SMACNA manuals to members at a greatly discounted rate.

SMCAA provides a scholarship program for SMCAA members’ apprentices. More than $ 22,000 has been raised since the program’ s inception.

SMCAA and SMACNA partner to provide industry-specific educational seminars for our members every year.

SMCAA sponsors and co-sponsors many social events with MCA and ASHRAE every year – a great way for members to network within our industry.
