Cues from the Queen
Hello Queens, first of all let me say Happy late Mother’s Day to all of the hardworking mothers! Thank you for all that you do everyday bringing up our young kings and queens!
Now, you all know what it’s like to find yourself in a new environment, meeting new people? The introductions, the quick little summary of “who you are”, etc…I recently started a new position and in the past three weeks, of course, still getting to know my co-workers and vice versa. I have never been shy a day in my life so my mouth runs like water with no filter and I say exactly and only what I mean. So I find myself receiving a lot of awkward looks, a lot of laughs, a lot of hate and a lot of intrigue. It’s a mixture of “Oh my gosh, is she serious?” to “Girl, you are crazy!”. However that’s pretty much been the consensus since I can remember. I laugh at the haters, kick it with the realists and keep on pushing. Well, while getting to know my cube-mate, just 2 weeks into the new job, he got some “disturbing” news from a friend and it ruined the rest of his day. So much so that he went home early and didn’t come in the next two days. Anyway, when he finally returned to work, I asked him if he was okay. He made up some bogus excuse for missing work but said that he was okay now. Eventually, throughout the day, in casual conversation like I do, I pulled it out of him because he still was not himself. And while I had only known him a couple of weeks, in close quarters as such, it’s easy to get to know someone if you put in the effort. So he told me that he was stressed out over a friend and THEIR situation and oh my goodness, why did he say that to ME?! I may have crossed a boundary, a line, stepped on a toe or two, hurt some feelings or whatever but like I said, I only keep it 100!
