Goalkeeper supreme, Kaylin Swart answers our prying questions this month.

SHEBE 06

do your boots

SHEBE: What are you studying?

KS: I will be graduating from Menlo College in May, with a degree in Sports Management and Marketing

SHEBE: How often do you train?

KS: We train every day of the week at 7:45am. It can be rough at times, don’t be fooled ha-ha

SHEBE: Take us through your record breaking stay at Menlo?

KS: This year was definitely one for the book, and it is safe to say that every season has been better than the last. We played extremely well and having a coach who is devoted and knows what she wants from the players contributed into the team going unbeaten in the month of October with a

couple clean sheets, which is what we pride ourselves in. But all credit goes to my coaches.

SHEBE: How has your game grown playing college soccer?

KS: It’s been a great 4 years playing college soccer in America. Every day was a challenge and thatdefinitely helped me with stay on my toes and never being complacent. My game has grown a lot from the academy days at the HPC,

because the game in America is faster and very physical. The

mentality of the players around me has helped in all aspects of the game and also to fuel my mental strength.

SHEBE: You were kept very busy in the match vs Sweden and at the Cyprus cup, tell us about that?

KS: Yeah, it was great experience. Earning my first cap for Banyana against Sweden could not have been any better despite the result, I think we did really well. And The Cyprus Cup was so much fun. We surprised a lot of people this year and now they know what we are capable of doing, but it does not end there, we are ready to improve even more and look forward to qualifying for the world cup.

SHEBE: Who has the best taste in music in the banyana squad?

KS: Definitely Mpumi Nyandeni but Andile Dlamini is up there.

SHEBE: Out of the goalkeepers in the squad who is the loudest on field?

KS: Ha-ha Andile Dlamini and Yolula Tsawe can compete for this one.

SHEBE: Do your boots match your gloves? What are your favourite gloves / boots to play in?

KS: I wish I had that luxury, but no I don’t always match, but if I can I will! My favorite boots and gloves have to be Nike, I just use the brand so much that I got comfortable in it.

SHEBE: How many sets of gloves would you take to a match with you?

KS: I always have two pairs of gloves with me, just for security because you never know when one

will tear apart during warm-up or the game.

SHEBE: Often goalkeepers get the best and brightest kits, have you worn and crazy kits in seasons gone by?

KS: Oh yes! I love bright colours, since I was a little kid. I haven’t had crazy patterns on my kits but I have had my fair share of highlighted colors!

gloves?
