Shaw & Sons was awarded one of the largest contracts of this project phase including all the structural
concrete for the 16-story building, on and off site concrete roadways, civil, cast-in-place hardscape
and walls, subterranean mechanical rooms and reservoirs. As on all structural buildings, Shaw &
Sons accurately set all columns, base plates to within design specifications without modifications to
structural steel and carried out the design specifications to completion of the surrounding hardscape.
Shaw & Sons was responsible for providing concrete for this project phase, as well as the prior
phase. Project includes 16-story structural building, and seat walls with a roadway dividing the two
phases. An excessive level of sulfate content in the soil coupled with a high groundwater table
required preventative measures such as type V cement with a low water-to-cement ratio of 0.45. The
project also consisted of dam-type cutoff walls with water stops outlining all irrigated areas, and two
feet of select fill over native soil.
