With over 900 structural projects and thousands of architectural concrete projects , Shaw & Sons has learned what works . We have not only designed and developed the patents but also retained many trade secrets , additional procedures , quality control measures , skills and knowledge to enhance the concrete industry . The people at Shaw & Sons include 25 carpenter foremen and 7 mason foremen that help 150 to 300 Union Carpenters , Masons , Laborers and Operating Engineers build , work and think together . The average tenure of our foreman is 20 years . Shaw & Sons ’ selective task format ensures every person is an expert at his task once protocol has been established . Shaw & Sons ’ weekly round table meeting with our staff and foremen is all part of our continued learning process to solve problems and collaborate to develop solutions . Our upper management is there to support our people and keep them safe , informed and moving forward . • Every Shaw & Sons ’ concrete pour includes a trained QC employee at the batch plant to verify materials - sand , cement , aggregate and to check each truck ’ s requirements as they are being loaded .
• At every on-site pour , Shaw & Sons will take a sample of each load to compare color to other loads that to re-verify sand , color , cement , and admixtures – each sample is dated and identified with the batch ticket number .
• Engineered formwork is our company ’ s specialty , whether it is castin-place or shotcrete , determining what type of material is to be used , plumb and line qualities , and how forms are assembled . These same requirements also apply to hardscape formwork , as it is equally important and consists of many factors to turn out the best results .
• Depending on the soils report , most of our bids include Mirafi 500x fabric and 15-Mil Stego vapor barrier under base material . This not only stabilizes the subgrade but also prevents problems with salts thermally transmitting through the surface .

• Shaw & Sons utilize civil and grading analysis to ensure one-of-akind geometric functioning design . We provide unique joint plans and shop drawings that allow function for movement and restraint for safety and longevity . This can only be accomplished after the civil elevations have been assessed and / or adjusted by us . We use exclusively in-house BIM modeling – Rhino , CAD , 3D CAD , and we use our own in-house Trimble ® survey systems for extending , verifying and replacing field layout . All of our survey equipment is Swiss or Japanese made , calibrated Nikon ® , Topcon ® and Wild Heerbrugg ® . Although costly , quality construction begins with quality products . Having the right equipment is also paramount with our company . We always arm our people with the right piece and quality equipment
