The Annenberg Community Beach House at Santa Monica State Beach is a public facility located on five acres of oceanfront property . Originally developed in the 1930s by William Randolph Hearst for actress Marion Davies , the property was a site for a 110-room mansion . The project involved rehabilitation of the historic Marion Davies Guest House and pool , as well as construction of new amenities such as a splash pad , children ’ s play area , and gallery .
Shaw & Sons ’ work includes all hardscape including Cibola Gold Lithocrete , Shaw Beige integral color , light etch finish , and aqua heat fractured glass Lithocrete . The historic pool tile was recycled and re-installed . The pool deck concrete was “ cast through ” and the historic tile was inlayed to allow for a super-flat and hand-crafted appearance .
“ The Annenberg Community Beach House is one of our most important projects and is a signature project for the City of Santa Monica . It had many challenges including the beachfront environment , the potential for a very high level of public use , and the expectation of the public / private partnership that funded the project to create a world-class recreation facility with maximum durability and optimum sustainability . To achieve these and other development goals required an extraordinary team of professionals who were willing to go the extra mile to deliver exceptional service and products . Without question , Shaw & Sons provided the highest quality concrete for the hardscape and their craftsmanship certainly helped to make this an awardwinning project . We greatly appreciate their professionalism and hard work , and look forward to our next project together .” - Mia Lehrer , Mia Lehrer + Associates
