Lightly honed and polished interior concrete floors have inherent problems where every foot step and rod mark made during placement can be seen in the finished product . Our approach for The Broad was to place the concrete without ever walking in the concrete during placing and finishing . Strip pours not only made this possible but also helped control cracking on the unusual air floor ducting system . The 2 ” to 6 ” floor configuration was designed by the manufacturer to support heavy loads of a fork lift required to move art in and out at desired intervals . In order to create a consistent finish we set criteria of a floor flatness of FF 50 or better . This along with our pneumatically applied select granite sand helped ensure that when the floor was honed the surface plane would reveal a fixed uniform color from the embedded aggregate . 197
