In 2007 , the City of Beverly Hills began a $ 22.5-million project to replace the Coldwater Canyon Reservoir originally constructed in 1928 . Although the reservoir was regularly maintained , damages caused by the Sylmar and Northridge earthquakes required the complete replacement of the site . In addition to increasing the water capacity of the reservoir , the city also updated and added to the 605-acre park area with a synthetic jogging track , seating areas , feature fountain and playground .
