Clients who invest a little more are guaranteed a greater return on their investment
Shaw & Sons has always gone far beyond plans and specifications . Our patented systems don ’ t cost an owner more money . The patents are a compilation of additional steps and products needed to have concrete perform to its true intended ability .
All of the owners we work for either want to keep their projects as a mid to long term investment and or don ’ t want any liability in the event of a construction defect or personal injury lawsuit . In addition to our patents and going above plans and specification requirements , our trade secrets , knowledge and experience play a large role in the success of our projects . Shaw & Sons works methodically , following set procedures for forming ( various shapes , how many plies of plywood is required and type of ply , how many studs or walers are required and what schedule ) all calculated per the expected form pressure and how the concrete should be mixed and consolidated and finished . It sounds simple but nothing is further from the truth . Other companies leave steps out either to try to accommodate their lower bid number or to make a higher profit percentage . If one thing is left out , the finished product will have a major defect and will start to deteriorate rapidly .
One of the many tilt-up building projects in Orange County is now over 50 years old .
Shaw & Sons is currently building the 200 Spectrum Drive project in Irvine . The existing site was previously used for farming so it contains chemicals and salts ; combined with the clay soil and evidence of decaying concrete around the area , we have added Stego wrap under all our hardscape on this project . This small change , along with the use fiber glass dowels and a lithium quartz sealer will provided assurance to the owner that his project will look new for decades to come . Without knowing , most experienced people in construction recognize our projects based solely on the way they look and perform .
Why you should consider not going with the low bid :
Consider if the low bid is 10 % lower than the next lowest bidder , on a one million dollar amount of work the low bid may be $ 100,000 low . Low bid may be buying the job with not enough money to be effective . By using the low bid , it allows the low bidder to cut corners and typically put money in their pocket while delivering an inferior product . The owner at this point has spent $ 900,000 the wrong way ; the low bidder has put extra money in his pocket while he is also able to use the excuse that he was the low bidder and you get what you pay for .

The Howard Hughes Center for Hines in Playa Vista still looks new well after 20 years proving that concrete constructed properly pays back with very low maintenance .
