HISTORY BEHIND INNOVATION

Newly-patented L . Q . S . ®

With more than 25 years and 5 million square feet of Lithocrete installed , Shaw & Sons has again met the demands of owners and architects through the development of our patented L . Q . S . finish .
The greatest difficulty with all exposed aggregate systems has always been limiting sand spots . When seeding “ 100 %” aggregate , there is approximately 20-30 % of the surface void of aggregate where integral sand and cement paste show through at a different color than the select surface seeded aggregates . Through years of research , Shaw & Sons has developed a range of unique procedures that introduce select sands ( typically less than 1 / 4 inch ) along with select seeded aggregates . By doing so , we can produce consistent plazas with both “ aggregates ” and “ sands ” that now provide a true 100 % seeded surface .
Additionally , while reducing the quantity of Iarge aggregates and introducing a quantity of select sands , we are reducing installation costs through the use of our Pneumatic Spray process . This unique process , which includes using a pneumatic spraying device under the protection of two other recently awarded US patents allows us to seed larger areas in a fraction of the time .
These reduced costs are passed on to the owner , which is why the new L . Q . S . and Presto Pneumatic Spray processes have been specified and used as VE alternatives on some of the largest , recently completed and ongoing projects in Southern California including Santa Monica Place , Cedar Sinai Hospital , Los Angeles ’ new Civic Park and Hoag Hospital among numerous other awardwinning projects .
Shaw & Sons is pleased to present this unique , refined surface seeded product to the construction industry and we look forward to another 65 years of successful concrete installations as part of award-winning projects .
