“ CDU at a Crossroads”: A President’ s State of the University
Address That Offers a Convincing Tenor of Accomplishment
On August 29th, President David Carlisle delivered a very well plotted and thought-provoking State of the University address. It was a continuation of his recent years’ discourse in confirming the steady progression of a journey fraught with eminent danger if attention to detail was overlooked along the way.
As we enter the Fall semester of 2023, CDU’ s future is a thing of destiny, the legacy of which we are all a part. Every stakeholder, on and off campus who has ever participated in, or cheered for the momentous outcome that is building, has a significant role to play.
Recent SOTUs have addressed the challenges of an uphill mountain climb to fulfill the promise that so many people have dreamed of. And now- in this time of great inspiration and with we the worker bees being purposeful – our collective community has come to demand and to expect successful results a high percentage of the time. No doubt that is why Dr. Carlisle continually emphasized the importance of the partnership between the community and the University over and over that day.
Again, this year, the SOTU was top heavy with accolades regarding achievement in so many areas, a natural development given all of the effort that has been put forth to encourage everyone under that tent on the Cobb Lawn, on that hot August day, to take pride in this work. And the audience responded by cheering in animated anticipation; elated with the resultant accomplishments as intoned by Dr. Carlisle.
But lest any of the administrators, faculty, staff, and students in attendance begin to prematurely celebrate and take their hand off the helm of the ship, Dr. Carlisle entitled SOTU 2023“ CDU at a Crossroads”. True to his affinity for voicing praise and acknowledging significant teams and people who have gone above and beyond expectations, his message was very persuasive as he celebrated the many high achievers who have sketched the CDU story in eye-catching terms writ large.
